Newborough Teacher Training Institute

Newborough Training College (Canada) was established in 1980, with the assistance of Sybil Taylor, Canadian lecturer, examiner and experienced Montessori teacher. In Canada, we have educated approximately 300 teachers and worldwide close to 700 teachers. Newborough has graduates in the United Kingdom, Canada, South East Asia, South America, West Indies, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Spain.
Since October 2006, Newborough Training College is known as Newborough Teacher Training Institute. The Canadian branch of the College, certified as a post-secondary vocational institution in the Province of Ontario, offers a course of study in the Montessori Method of Education for teachers of children between the ages of two and one half to six years of age. A certificate and transcript is awarded upon successful completion of the course.
Our main goal is to provide the qualifications necessary for the graduated student teachers to gain employment in the field of Montessori Education. We also appeal to students wishing to upgrade or further their existing knowledge of pre-school education methods. Our student body has included many who were already qualified as Elementary or Early Childhood Education teachers, or were employed as educational assistants in Day Care or Nursery Schools.
It is our belief that the Montessori philosophy can be incorporated into and benefit any childhood education environment.

Few people are gifted with the ability to inspire both children and adults.
Sybil Taylor’s contribution to the worldwide understanding and use of the Montessori Methodology is outstanding. She received her teacher training from St. Nicholas Training Centre for the Montessori Method of Education in London, England. She founded and directed three Montessori Schools in Ontario and has been Co-Director, Lecturer and Examiner for Newborough Teachers College, UK; Educational Consultant/Lecture Tours in Southeast Asia on Montessori Methodology. From 1985 to 1993, Sybil Taylor resided in the Canary Islands, Spain teaching children ages 4 to 7 years as well as presenting a series of workshops and teacher training, conducted in both Spanish and English, at the International American School of Las Palmas.
Sybil Taylor returned to Canada in 1993 and opened Century Montessori Schools in September 1994. She still remains the Principal of a student body of 400 students. Sybil Taylor plans to continue her work and remain in Canada.
Dr. Maria Montessori was a very progressive scientist who saw that, with the changes in conditions, it was imperative to adapt the method to the times and cultures world-wide. Sybil Taylor has proven her ability to adapt the method with the latest educational advances. She values learning from others and is able to incorporate these ideas and practices into the Montessori methodology while maintaining its integrity and high standards.
